Red Bordner Distillery

With Over 53 Years Of Making Moonshine, You Are Sure To Get Only The Best Moonshine Available.

Though born in SC, Red grew up a country boy in Black Mountain, NC. Coming from a long line of Appalachian mountain people of Fontana Lake, and with his mother’s heritage being Irish and Scottish, Red was born to make good liquor. By age 12, he had started learning his way around the still, making mash, and watching family and Kinfolk make moonshine. Now with over 50 years of experience, Red has perfected the art of making real moonshine running the smoothest liquor around. Red Bordner Distillery was established in October 2014. Located in Boiling Springs, SC just east of what he calls “home,” Red Bordner Distillery is making liquor the only way he knows how, except now it’s legal to buy and share! Mixing every mash in-house himself and using only 100% raw products, he is able to assure every bottle they make is the highest quality spirit of its kind. Red Bordner Distillery is sold statewide in over 175 stores. Their Kick Back Cove Moonshine is a unique line of whiskeys, including both clear and flavored moonshines. Earning national recognition in 2017, Red Bordner Distillery and Kick Back Cove’s products have won 30 medals in International Taste Tests performed in Denver, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Orlando.

Blue Agave is the first of their Premium liquors in stores and they couldn’t be happier with the feedback both in sales and customer reviews. In fact, their Blue Agave is repeatedly and consistently chosen over Patron Silver during blind tastings (nine out of ten times). They are excited about adding to their Premium Liquor line with South Carolina Blue Agave Gold, South Carolina Aged Rum, and their South Carolina Scottish and Irish Style Whiskey. As soon as each passes Red’s taste test, they will unload the barrels, bottling each batch in house at their Boiling Springs, South Carolina Distillery. To keep their moonshine new and exciting, flavors will vary by season to assure it’s always the right time for Kick Back Cove Moosnhine!

Distilling your own liquor became massively popular during the prohibition era. Moonshiners would brew their own batch of unaged whiskey at night in order to avoid discovery. Using a homemade distillery and a few key ingredients (corn mash being the primary one), large batches of moonshine could be brewed. In the late 18th century and early 1800s, Scots-Irish immigrants settled in the Appalachian area. They brought with them their recipe for brewing unaged whiskey, which they referred to as their 'water of life.' Their recipe made moonshine especially important to the Appalachian area.

The tradition of moonshiners in the Appalachians continued into the 20th century, when legendary moonshiner Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton revolutionized the Appalachian corn trade. Because the road systems were so sparse, it made transporting corn by horse difficult. However, by converting the corn to moonshine first, a horse would be able to carry much more product. This allowed the moonshine industry to boon in the Appalachians. Today, Red Bordner’s Kick Back Cove moonshine offers a similar drinking experience to the moonshine of old.
