‘The Spirit of Ohio’ is really a mindset, a sense of rock-solid determination in the face of adversity. In Dayton, the home of Buckeye Vodka, numerous businesses suffered and plants closed due to the recession in 2008 and 2009, and family, friends, neighbors, and business owners were all affected. In attempts to help their hometown thrive again, brother-in-law Tom Rambasek, brothers Jim and Chris Finke, and good friend and CFO Marty Clarke founded Crystal Spirits LLC and developed the Buckeye Vodka brand. Their dreams were realized in 2011 when they brought Buckeye Vodka to market.
They believe in the old adage ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going,' and since the beginning they’ve been committed to going, going, and never stopping. They aim to make a difference by investing locally, build a business that creates jobs, and make a positive contribution to their local, state, and national economy. It’s from this disposition that Buckeye Vodka 'The Spirit of Ohio' was born.
The owners and distillers are all vodka drinkers and wanted Buckeye’s vodka to be extremely smooth with a traditional taste. The taste of vodka can vary tremendously due to the types of grain, the quality of that grain, and the water that’s used. The number of times it’s distilled and how it’s filtered can change the vodka as well. Details matter, especially when it comes to vodka.
To maintain their high standards of excellence, each small batch of Buckeye Vodka is carefully handcrafted by the owners from beginning to end. The distillers chose a superior recipe that combines the amazing quality of Midwestern grains and the purest of water, winning them numerous awards, including Chicago Beverage Testing Institute’s Gold Medal & Best Buy, NY International Spirits Competition’s Silver Medal, Ohio Distiller of the Year, NYC 50 Best Competition’s Gold Medal, and the San Francisco Spirits Competition’s Silver Medal. They test and compare every batch against the leading national brands and won’t stop until theirs is the smoothest. This attention to detail ensures that each bottle of Buckeye Vodka is just as good as the last. The distillers have exceeded their expectations with the first batch and they will happily put that taste to the test against any competitor on the shelf today.
